- Berrettini, who is the sixth seed in this tournament, was the Wimbledon finalist last year.
- He continued his good run in 2022. After playing the ATP Cup, where his team Italy couldn’t advance to the knockouts, he featured in the Australian Open.
- He reached his maiden semi-final in the Grand Slam event, where he went down to eventual champion Rafael Nadal in four sets.
- He then went till the quarterfinals of the Rio Open, where he was defeated by Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz Garfia in three sets.
- During the first round at the Mexican Open, he had to retire midway owing to an abdominal injury.
- He has recovered in time for the Indian Wells and after receiving a bye in the first round, he played Holger Rune in the second.
- His form was patchy as he had to fight till the third set to clinch the victory. He will look to give a much improved performance when he takes on Harris.

- Meanwhile, Lloyd Harris has had an underwhelming start to the season.
- He has participated in five tournaments before the Indian Wells Masters, which are Adelaide International 2, Australian Open, ATP Rotterdam, Qatar Open and Dubai Tennis Championships.
- In all the fivetournaments, he suffered first round exits. He won his first game of the season by defeating Facundo Bagnis 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 to end his losing streak. Harris will face a tough opponent in Berrettini up next.
