Sumit Nagal has continued to build on his great form. After winning his 5th ATP Challenger title in Chennai on February 11, the 26-year-old has beaten France’s Geoffrey Blancaneaux at the Bengaluru Open 2024 to move to the round of 16. With this win, the top-ranked Indian men’s singles player has won 6 straight matches and 12 consecutive sets.
Facing a familiar foe in Blancaneaux, Nagal breezed past the Frenchmen in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. The Indian ace had met him last month as well, in the Australian Open 2024 qualifiers. Like today, the 26-year-old dispatched the Frenchman in two sets. With this win in the round of 32, Nagal has improved his record against him to 4-0.
Sumit Nagal entered the ATP Top 100 (98) for the first time last week, having won the ATP 100K title. If the player manages to win his second consecutive title, he has the chance to reach as high as world number 82 in the world.
The 26-year-old will face Chak Lam Coleman Wong of Hong Kong in the next round. It will be the first meeting between the two when they meet on the center court on February 15.
Wong is coming off a straight-sets win over Belgium’s Raphael Collignon in the Round of 32. The player from Hong Kong has made his way through to the Bengaluru Open 2024 main draw after beating two straight sets in the qualifying stage.
