From India, Laksya Sen, Kidambi Srikanth and Saina Nehwal will headline the action. India faced a big setback to its medal hopes as PV Sindhu has ruled herself out of the tournament after suffering an ankle injury. The tournament provides the most ranking point for the players and the winners will be crowned as the World Champion.

After winning the Commonwealth Games Goled medal, Sindhu, despite being placed in a tough draw was one of the contenders for the World Championship title, however with her withdrawal, all eyes will be on Saina Nehwal, who is not in a great form at the moment.

Meanwhile in the Men’s Singles, Kidambi Srikanth and Lakshya Sen finished on the podium last year. While Srikanth won the silver, Lakshya Sen bagged bronze. Both the players are expected to better their performance this year and fight for gold.

Indians in action

  • Saina Nehwal is at the bottom-half of the draw. She will begin against Cheung Ngan Yi of Hong Kong. If she gets past Yi, Saina will square up against sixth seed Nozomi Okuhara of Japan. The other Indian girl, Malvika Bansod plays Line Christophersen of Denmark.
  • Men’s SINGLES: Lakshya Sen, Kidammbi Srikanth and HS Prannoy – are on the same side while Sai Praneeth is in the top half of the draw.
  • Lakshya Sen: He won bronze in 2021, got a tough first round opponent in Hans-Kristian Solberg Vittinghus of Denmark.
  • HS Prannoy is expected to meet second seed Kento Momota of Japan. Of late, Momota is finding it tough to clear the first few rounds and Prannoy may face Lakshya in the pre-quarterfinals. Though Lakshya enjoys a 2-1 win-loss record, Prannoy won the last match at the Indonesia Open in June.
