Saina Nehwal made a strong start to her match against China’s Wang Zhiyi but unfortunately succumbed in a three-set thriller, losing the encounter 21-12, 7-21, 13-21.

Srikanth started the game positively and was slightly ahead of his opponent until the break. He took a slender 11-10 lead by the first-set break. However trailing from 11-12 Hong Yang came back in the contest and scored five consecutive points to take 17-12 lead. From then on, Srikanth lost control of the set as he lost the first set 16-21.
In the second set too the Chinese started positively by taking an early lead, Srikanth however fought his way back and won the set 21-17 to take the game into the decider. In the third set, Hong Yang yet again took early lead and entered the break with the score at 11-6. Srikanth continued to trail throughout the set and lost the set and the match to bow out in the second round.
