India’s distinguished handball player, Avin Khatkar, sadly passed away on Saturday in his hometown of Rohtak, Haryana, due to a sudden cardiac arrest. He was just 35 years old. The Handball Federation of India (HFI) shared the heartbreaking news on social media, stating, “It is with great sadness that the Handball Federation of India announces the passing of international handball player Mr. Avin Khatkar, who passed away at the young age of 35 on Saturday, October 26, 2024, in his hometown of Rohtak due to sudden cardiac arrest.”
A Legacy of achievements
Avin, who served in the Indian Air Force, made important contributions to Indian handball by representing the country in numerous international competitions, bringing massive pride to the nation. His notable accomplishments include winning two gold medals at the South Asian Games and competing for India at the Asian Games. In 2023, he participated in the Asian Men’s Club League in Kuwait, where he represented Golden Eagles Uttar Pradesh.

In the national circuit, Avin showcased an exceptional record, representing both the Services Sports Control Board and Haryana at the Senior National Handball Championships.
