Australian Open LIVE: India’s ace doubles specialist Rohan Bopanna ended his Australian Open 2022 campaign after bowling out of the mixed doubles first round in Melbourne on Saturday. Bopanna and his Croat partner Darija Jurak Schreiber were knocked out in the super tie-breaker against Andrey Golubev and Lyudmyla Kichenok 6-1, 4-6, 9-11. Rohan Bopanna and Dariia Jurak put up a dominant show in the first set, winning it by 6-1. Rohan Bopanna did serve well and was commendable at the net in the first set which the pair won 6-1.

However, they could not hold on to their nerves and serves in the second and in the tie-breaker as they failed to convert two match points in the super tie-breaker. They were broken twice in the second set as Bopanna dropped his serve. While they broke back, they lost another service game to lose the second set 2-6.
In the tie-breaker, it didn’t improve. Rohan Bopanna and Dariia Jurak were a point away from sealing the tie-breaker at 9-8 but lost the match point twice to crash out of the season’s first Grand Slam.
Earlier this week, Bopanna crashed out of men’s doubles opening-round match along with Eduoard Roger-Vasselin. The pair lost to Huey/Rungkat 6-3, 6-7, 2-6.

Meanwhile, Sania Mirza will look to continue her run, along with American partner Rajeev Ram in the mixed doubles event of the Australian Open. The pair will be taking on wild card entrant Ellen Perez and Matwe Middleklopp in the second round of the Grand Slam event on Sunday.
