Australian Open LIVE Results: Daniil Medvedev beats Nick Kyrios in a thriller, tells crowd ‘SHOW SOME RESPECT’
What made Medvedev Upset? Australian Open favourite Daniil Medvedev hit back at a partisan Melbourne Park crowd, calling fans “low I.Q.” for the way they booed during his four-set second-round win over Nick Kyrgios.
Medvedev, who famously became a villain during his run to the US Open final a few years ago with his reactions to the crowd, admitted he tried to ignore the Aussie fans completely during his fiery contest.
While Kyrgios called for the crowd to lift him, Medvedev remained almost silent with the Aussie describing him to courtside commentator Dylan Alcott as a “robot”. The Russian prevailed 7-6(1) 6-4 4-6 6-2.
Medvedev got so upset with the CROWD BOOING while being interviewed by Jim Courier that he said – SHOW SOME RESPECT for JIM COURIER.
“Show some respect.” 😡😡
Daniil Medvedev was NOT happy with the crowd behaviour tonight and he let them know in the on-court interview! 😳

Medvedev Wins but Unhappy: What happened in the match? A capacity 50% crowd cheered on every Kyrgios point at a floodlit Rod Laver Arena but despite their fanatic support, the Australian maverick could not find a way past the U.S. Open champion who showed nerves of steel.
An inspired Kyrgios forced a break of serve in the third set to take the match into the fourth but Medvedev, who is the highest-ranked men’s player remaining following Novak Djokovic’s deportation, soon regained control.
A double break in the fourth set made it look easy for last year’s Australian Open finalist and he will next meet 57th-ranked Botic van de Zandschulp of the Netherlands for a place in the fourth round.
“I came to win this match and I am happy to do it,” said Medvedev. “It’s not easy when you get booed between the first and second serve. I had to stay calm.”
Medvedev, who enters the season-opening Grand Slam event as the favourite, is looking to win his second consecutive Grand Slam after winning his maiden Grand Slam title in the 2021 US Open by defeating Novak Djokovic in the final.

He made a good start in the Australian Open this year, winning the first round against Switzerland’s Henri Laaksonen by defeating him 6-1, 6-4, 7-6(3).

Game 2: Medvedev wins second set 6-4
Game 3: Nick Kyrios bounces back with 6-4 scoreline
Game 4: Medvedev won 6-2
Meanwhile crowd favorite Nick Kyrgios had a poor 2021. He reached the third round of the Australian Open last year and then decided to not participate in many tournaments that required him to serve a mandatory quarantine period. He returned during the Wimbledon and pulled out in the third round after sustaining an abdominal injury. He then made a first-round exit in the US Open. He finished the year with his ranking dropping to No.93.
Earlier this year he was tested positive of Covid-19 and couldn’t participate in the Sydney International. He enters the Australian Open with his ranking dropped well below the Top 100. He is currently ranked World No. 115 and made a good start this year by defeating Liam Broady in straight sets in the first round.
