Australian Open Highlights – Today in Australian Open: Novak Djokovic sailed past Enzo Couacaud in the second round of the Australia Open. However it was a day of upsets as Women’s Singles second seed Ons Jabeur, Men’s Singles second seed Casper Rudd, Taylor Fritz were all sent packing after losing their respective second round encounters.  Sania Mirza and her partner Anna Danilina advanced to the second round in Women’s doubles at Australian Open . Jenson Brooksby had three match point opportunities, but let that slip away as he fails to hold his serve. Leads 5-4 in third set.

Women’s Doubles

India’s Six-time Grand Slam winner Sania Mirza will begins her final Australian Open campaign. She will partner Kazakhstan’s Anna Danilina in women’s doubles in her swansong.  The eighth-seeded pair takes on the Hungarian-American duo of Dalma Galfi and Bernarda Pera in the first round on Thursday, 19th January.

The 36-year-old Mirza, a former World No. 1 in doubles, announced earlier this month that she will retire from the sport after next month’s WTA 1000 event in Dubai.

Casper Ruud vs Jenson Brooksby

Following the ouster of Rafael Nadal, Casper Ruud is now the top seed in the Men’s Singles draw. The World No.3 will face USA’s Jenson Brooksby in the second round of the Grand Slam event.

Ruud hasn’t looked at his best in the build-up to this tournament. He suffered a first round defeat at ASB Classic. In the first round of the Australian Open, he had to play two tie-breakers and was struggling in his four set victory. He will aim to get back to his best.

Meanwhile, Brooksby clinched a 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, 6-2 victory against Australia’s Chris O’Connell in the first round. Brooksby had a good preparation ahead of the Australian Open as he reach the semifinal of the ASB Classic. The 22-year old is playing his career’s first Australian Open and aims to make it to the third round.

Andrey Rublev vs Emil Ruusuvuori

Fifth seed Andrey Rublev is currently in good form. He has mae it to the second round after clinching a straight set victory against former US Open championDominic Thiem in straight sets. He now enters as a favourite against Emil Ruusuvuori in the second round.

Ruusuvuori on the other hand won a four-set thriller against Mx Purcell and advanced to the second round. He will face a stern test againt the in-form Andrey Rublev in the upcoming contest.

Alexander Zverev vs Michael Mmoh

Alexander Zverev is aiming to climb up the rankings. The current World No.13 is playing his first match on the ATP Tour since the French Open last year. He had to play a five-setter against Juan Varillas in the first round. He hopes to better his performance against USA’s Michael Mmoh in the upcoming contest.

Like Zverev, Mmoh too won a five-setter against Laurent Lokoli in the first round. He has made his way into the main draw after playing the qualifier. The American is now aiming to make his maiden appearance in the third round of the tournament.

Novak Djokovic vs Enzo Couacaud

Novak Djokovic started off the Australian Open on a terrific note. He clinched a straight set victory against Roberto Carvalles Baena in the first round of the tournament. The Serbian aims to continue his form as he is set to face qualifier Enzo Couacaud.

27-year old Couacuad has made his maiden appearance into the main draw of the Australian Open. He clinched his first-ever victory in the Grand Slam event by defeating Hugo Dalien in straight sets.

Caroline Garcia vs Leylah Fernandez

Fourth seed Caroline Garcia will be in action against former US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez in the second round of the Australian Open. Garcia has been in terrific form since the last year. She made rapid progress in the rankings and is now currently the World No.4. She began the Australian Open campaign by dropping just three games against Katherine Sebov.

Leylah Fernandez too clinched a 7-5, 6-2 victory against Alize Cornet in the first round of the Australian Open. She however faces a tough challenge against in-form Garcia. 20-year old Fernandez will be making her debut in the second round of the tournament.

Ons Jabeur vs Marketa Vondrousova

Second seed Ons Jabeur is aiming to extrend his win streak. She takes on Marketa Vondrousova in the second round of the tournament. Jabeur wasn’t at her best in the first round. She dropped a set against Tamara Zidansek and won the contest 7-6, 4-6, 6-1. She aims for a much better performance in the upcoming matches.

Vondrousova clinched a come-from behind victory in her first round match against Alison Riske. The 23-year old was a semifinalist at the Australian Open in 2019 and aims for a similar performance this year.
