Emma Raducanu: 19-year-old Emma Raducanu lost to Danka Kovinic who hails from Montenegro. Though the world No 18, Raducanu made a comeback to level the second game, the qualifier and World no 98 stood firm and completed her win with 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 to advance into the third round of the Australia Open for the first time in her career.

Andy Murray: Andy Murray, the former world No 1 too suffered a similar fate at the hands of a qualifier Taro Daniel of Japan. The World rank 120 defeated Murray, a three-time Grand Slam winner in straight sets of 6-4,6-4,6-4. Murray is currently ranked 113 and entered this tournament from the Wild Card slot.
Petra Kvitova: Tennis great Petra Kvitova bowed out of the tournament in the very first round at the hands of Sorena Cirstea of Romania. Cirstea defeated Kvitova in straight sets of 6-2,6-2.

Leylah Fernandez: Leylah Fernandez, the Canadian teenager who was the runners-up of the US Open also made an exit from the first round of the Australian Open at the hands of Maddison Inglis who was a Wild card entry. Inglis defeated Fernandez 6-2,6-4 to move to the next round.
Nick Kyrgios: Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios suffered defeat in the 3rd round of his home tournament after losing a hard-fought battle against World No 2 Daniil Medvedev. The battle for the four games continued for almost three hours with Medvedev emerging victorious. Medvedev won the battle 7-6,6-4,4-6,6-2.
