Australian Open Final: World No.1 Ashleigh Barty ended Australia’s 44-year wait for a home winner at the Australian Open as she won her maiden Melbourne major title on Saturday, beating American Danielle Collins 6-3 7-6(2) in the final. The 25-year old became the first Australian since Chris O’ Niel in 1978 to win the title at Melbourne Park. The 25-year-old Barty now has major titles on three surfaces, adding the hard court at Melbourne Park to her win on grass at Wimbledon last year and on clay at the French Open in 2019.
