The second Australian Open semi-final between Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev turned out to be a thriller with Medvedev clinching a spot in the final in five sets. Medvedev made a remarkable comeback in the semi-final, coming back from two sets down to win the last three sets. The score line ultimately read 7-5, 6-3, 6-7, 6-7, 4-6.
Medvedev had a horrid start to the semi-final encounter against Zverev, losing the first set 7-5. Zverev broke Medvedev in the sixth game, and kept his serve on the next to win the game.
Zverev dominated the next set as well. breaking twice to win the second set 6-3. It looked like Zverev would go on to take the place in the final but Medvedev had other plans.
Medvedev won the third and fourth sets in tiebreak. Medvedev was two points away from defeat in the fourth-set tie-break but stayed composed, eventually advancing to his sixth Slam title match after a four-hour and 18-minute epic battle.
“First set honestly I think we both didn’t play that good. The second set I thought I played a bit better than the first set. He played very well, 6-3, two breaks, I didn’t have chances on his serve. I was a little bit lost but during the third set I said if I was going to lose this match I was going to be proud of myself. I want to fight until the end and if I lose I lose and I managed to win and I am very proud,” Medvedev said after the match.
