AO 2024: Upset of the tournament! World No.1 Iga Swiatek knocked out by Linda Noskova

Noskova has become the first teenager to beat a world no. 1 at the Australian Open since Amelie Mauresmo beat Lindsay Davenport in 1999.

World No. 1 Iga Swiatek has been knocked out of the Australian Open 2024! The four-time Grand Slam champion was no match for the Czech Republic’s Linda Noskova in the third round of the tournament. The teenager accomplished a remarkable three-set victory for world no. 1 after losing the first set.

From there on, Noskova, ranked 50th in the WTA ranking, broke Iga Swiatek three times in the next two sets to win the match, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. The 19-year-old became the first teenager to beat a world no. 1 at the Australian Open since Amelie Mauresmo beat Lindsay Davenport in 1999.

Although Noskova claimed her first-ever victory in the third round of a Grand Slam, the result is consistent with Swiatek’s performance at the Australian Open.

Despite having four slams to her name, Iga Swiatek has a poor record at the Australian Open. She managed to pass the fourth round at the Happy Slam just once in her six appearances at the slam.

She has a 17-6 win/loss record at the Australian Open, with her best result being a semifinal in 2023. However, apart from that, Swiatek has yet to go past the fourth round.
