Maria Francisca Perello left in tears after Rafael Nadal’s huge injury scare

Nadal suffered an injury scare while trying to reach a forehand smash down the line by Mackenzie McDonald. The 36-year-old sat was gripping his abdomen. Making their way towards the chair, Nadal sat with his head down. The on-court physio was called to help Nadal with his injury trouble.

The Spaniard took a lengthy medical time-out off the court. The player box had coach Carlos Moya and his wife Maria Francisca Perello and others. Everyone in the players’ box looked concerned, with his wife weeping after watching Nadal suffer.

The second-round exit was Nadal’s earliest exit at any Grand Slam since bowing out in the first round in Melbourne in 2016. The Spaniard back then had lost to Fernando Verdasco who was the lowest-ranked player to achieve the feat until now.
