Australian Open 2023: India’s doubles specialist Rohan Bopanna is all set to team up with Saina Mirza in the upcoming Australian Open. Bopanna, who is still going strong at the age of 42 confirmed this partnership on Tuesday. Both Mirza and Bopanna last played together at the Wimbledon in 2021. The veteran duo is eyeing Grand Slam glory in the upcoming Australian Open. The tournament is scheduled to get underway on January 16. Follow Australian Open 2023 News and updates on InsideSport.IN

Speaking to Firstsportz during the Maharashtra Open, Bopanna broke the news that he is teaming up with Sania. “Sania and I were supposed to play at the US Open as well in New York last September, but she got injured. Here is hoping we can again get going. I think it is still important Sania and I can set an example for Indian players.” he said.
Both Sania Mirza and Bopanna has the experience of playing together in the past. In the 2016 Rio Olympics they lost the bronze medal play-off match to Radek Stepanek and Lucie Hradecka. They last paired up in the Wimbledon in 2021. They made it to the third round and lost against 14th seed Andreja Klepac and Jean-Julien Roger.

In the Men’s Doubles he paired up with Netherlands’ Botic van de Zandschulp.The pair lost in the first round to Miguel Rael Varela and Ramkumar Ramanathan 6-7, 7-6, 9-11.
He will next feature in the Adelaide International 2 event. In the ATP 250 tournament, he will be teaming up with Matthew Ebden for the entire season.
Meanwhile, Sania Mirza decided to quit professional Tennis after the 2022 season. She has however pulled out of the US Open after suffering an injury last year in August. This made her to change the plans of retirement. She is gearing up to play yet another season on the tour. She was recently seen in action at the World Tennis League in Dubai.
At the Australian Open, she will also feature in Wmen’s Doubles. The World No.25 will team up witrh World No.11 Anna Danilina of Kazhakstan.
