Rafael Nadal gears up for Australian Open 2023

United Cup will mark the start of the 2023 season before the Australian Open 2023. The official Twitter handle of United Cup posted  video in which Nadal can be seen hitting  ground strokes in front of his coaches.  The Spaniard is looking to not only regain his form but also defend his crown.

The 2022 year has not only been a successful one for Nadal but it had come at the cost of injury. After winning the French Open, the 36-year-old was forced to pull out of the Wimbledon tournament due to a torn abdominal muscle. Despite the injury, Rafael Nadal participated in the US open 2022. The Spaniard’s magnificent unbeaten run in Grand Slam in 2022 was ended by America’s Frances Tiafoe in their round-of-16-clash.

Since the US Open the 22 time Grand slam winner has only featured in four competitive matches on tour. He ended up losing three of those matches (to Tommy Paul, Taylor Fritz, and Felix Auger-Aliassime).

Rafael Nadal shuts down talks about Australian Open 2023 being his last at Melbourne Park

Ahead of the buildup to the Australian Open 2023, Rafael Nadal has played down the talks of the 2023 Australian Open being his last at Melbourne park. The 36-year-old brushing aside retirement talks told reporters, “I’m not thinking about it being my last time here. I am happy doing what I am doing. I’m looking forward to keep doing this. The highest motivation to try to start well. It’s always important to start well for me, for the confidence,” .

He added, “The last few months haven’t been easy for me. Main thing for me now is recover the positive feelings on court, being competitive. I hope to. I am ready to make that happen, but let’s see. As a professional, you never know, hopefully not.

“I mean, when you are at the age of 36, you never know when it’s going to be the last one. It’s obvious, but I don’t like to talk about that because I am not in that mood now,” the former world number one opined”.
