Kyrgios had withdrawn from the Melbourne Summer Set ATP tournament last week due to asthma, according to the organizers, and pulled out of his clash with Italian seventh seed Fabio Fognini on Monday.
He joins the long list of pullouts which also features the likes of high-profile players like Roger Federer, Serena Williams and Karolina Pliskova, etc. Meanwhile, World No.1 Novak Djokovic and officials are yet to confirm his presence in the tournament.

Serena Williams will not contest the Australian Open 2022 following advice from her medical team. The 23-times grand slam singles champion had an injury-disrupted season and has not competed since an ankle injury forced her to retire six games into her first-round Wimbledon clash with Aliaksandra Sasnovich in June.
Roger Federer is set to miss Australian Open and is unlikely to return to the competition till mid-2022. Federer has been inactive since losing in the Wimbledon quarter-finals in July and undergoing another round of knee surgery.
Australian Open 2022: Dominic Thiem has pulled out of next month’s Australian Open owing to a long-standing wrist injury. The 28-year-old Austrian, who has not played since suffering the injury at the Mallorca Open in June, was unable to defend his US Open title this year.
Karolina Pliskova, World number four, has withdrawn from next month’s Australian Open with a hand injury sustained in training. The 29-year-old reached the semi-finals in Melbourne in 2019, losing to eventual champion Naomi Osaka. She reached the final at Wimbledon this year before a run to the quarter-finals of the U.S. Open.
The Australian Open begins on Jan. 17.
