Djokovic reached Turin on Thursday and had immediately kickstarted his preparations as he practiced along with Russia’s Andrey Rublev in his first session ahead of the year-end tournament this year. The Serbian will be the seventh seed in the tournament this year as he is currently the World No.8 in the ATP rankings.
He enters the tournament on a great form as he won the Tel Aviv Open title and Astana Open title last month before finishing as runner-up at the Paris Masters last week. He is aiming to end the year on a high and is eyeing his sixth title at the ATP Finals. The five-time champion can tie Roger Federer’s record of six ATP Finals titles if he wins this year.
However the Serbian faces a very tough challenge as he is placed in a group that can be called as the “Group of Death”. He will be facing higher-ranked Stefanos Tsitsipas and Daniil Medvedev, who are former ATP Finals titlist and also Andrey Rublev, who beat the Serbian earlier this year at the Serbian Open final.
Djokovic will begin his campaign by facing second seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in his first group match on Tuesday, 15th November. He will not be facing his rival Rafael Nadal in the group stages as the Spaniard is placed in the other group alongside Casper Ruud, Felix Auger Aliassime and Taylor Fritz.
Meanwhile for Nadal, it was his second day at practice and he was seen in action against Stefanos Tsitsipas on the practice courts. Nadal will begin his ATP Finals campaign on Monday. 14th November by facing USA’s Taylor Fritz in the first group contest.
