Athletics India: The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) on Tuesday announced that the National Youth Championships, scheduled to be held in Bhopal from January 27-29, has been shelved indefinitely following the postponement of the Asian Championships due to COVID-19 pandemic.
The National Youth Championships was to serve as selection trials for the Asian Athletics Championships to be held in Kuwait from March 1-4.

“AFI wants to inform that 4th Asian Youth Athletics Championships which was scheduled at Kuwait from 1-4 March 2022 has been postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic worldwide.
“In this regard, AFI has also decided to postpone the 17th National Youth Athletics Championships 2022 which was scheduled at Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) from 27-29 January 2022 till further notice,” the AFI said.
Sports getting affected
The rise of COVID-19 cases throughout the country has affected multiple sports, forcing federations to cancel or postpone events.
The Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWLF) had planned to conduct the nationals in Bhubaneswar from January 8 to 20. But due to rising COVID-19 cases, the Odisha government informed the federation about postponing the event.

And the IWLF has confirmed that it has now decided to conduct the nationals in sub-junior, junior and senior category from March 20-29.
The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) was planning to host its first-ever ranking tournament, which will be open to all wrestlers on paying a prescribed entry fee. The meet was scheduled to be held at the IG Stadium.
But due to rising COVID-19 cases and restrictions being imposed in Delhi, WFI have decided to shift the meet to Nandini Nagar, Gonda (Uttar Pradesh).
