Athletes from Sri Lanka who will be taking part in the Paris Olympics 2024

This is the country's 19th appearance at the Summer Games.

Sri Lanka is all set to take part in the upcoming Paris Olympics 2024. A total of 6 players will compete and represent the country in the games. However, the country hopes to win a medal at the Olympics.

Sri Lanka has a gender-balanced contingent, with three male and three female players participating. Out of the 6 players, 3 are participating in athletics, 1 in badminton, and 2 in swimming.

Sri Lanka in Athletics at the Paris Olympics 2024

In athletics, two players are participating in track events, while one athlete is participating in a field event.

Aruna Dharshana will compete in the Men’s 400m event. Aruna is a decorated athlete, having recently won a gold and a silver in the relay at the Asian Athletics Championships. He also clinched a bronze medal at the 2022 Asian Games.

Tharushi Karunarathna, competing in the Women’s 800m, is a medal hopeful for the nation. She recently won gold at the 2022 Asian Games. Based on her world ranking, she has qualified for the Olympics this year.

In the field event, Dilhani Lekamge will participate in the Women’s Javelin Throw. She previously won silver at the 2022 Asian Games.

Sri Lanka in Badminton at the Paris Olympics 2024

Sri Lanka’s lone shuttler, Viren Nettasinghe, will represent the country in badminton at the Olympics. He qualified through the BWF Race to Paris rankings. He is also the youngest badminton athlete from Sri Lanka to qualify for this prestigious tournament.

Sri Lanka in Swimming at the Paris Olympics 2024

Like India, Sri Lanka received two universality quotas in swimming. Kyle Abeysinghe will compete in the Men’s 100m freestyle, and Ganga Seneviratne will compete in the Women’s 100m backstroke.
