Carlos Alcaraz headlines first quarter

After winning his maiden US Open title and reaching the World No.1 ranking, 19-year old Carlos Alcaraz is set to feature in a first tournament as a World No.1 for the first time in his career as he enters the Astana Open as the top seed. He begins his campaign by facing Lucky Loser David Goffin in the first round. He is expected to win this contest and will face Adrian Mannarino in the second round.

The other seeded player in this quarter is Andrey Rublev, who is the fifth seed in the tournament. Rublev will face Laslo Djere in the first round and is likely to set up a blockbuster quarterfinal contest against Carlos Alcaraz. Meanwhile, qualifier Zhang Zhizhen has advanced to the second round after stunning Aslan Karatsev in the first round.

Stefanos Tsitsipas leads second quarter

Stefanos Tsitsipas who bowed out from the first round at the US Open is making his return to the ATP Tour and enters the Astana Open as the third seed. He faces Kazhakstan’s Mikhail Kukushkin in the first round. The draw also has qualifiers Alexander Shevchenko and Luca Nordi who are facing each other in the first round. The winner of this contest will face Tsitsipas in the second round, if the Greek wins his first round match.

Seventh seed Hubert Hurkacz is the only other seeded player in this quarter and he has already advanced to the second round by defeating Francisco Cerundolo in the first round. Tallon Griekspoor and Alexander Bublik are also part of the quarter and will face each other in the first round.

Novak Djokovic headlines third quarter

After winning the Tel Aviv Open, Novak Djokovic accepted a wildcard at the Astana Open and enters the tournament as the fourth seed. He will begin his campaign against Cristian Garin. Whoever wins this contest will face Boric van de Zandschulp in the second round. Zandschulp defeated Kazhakstan’s wildcard entrant Beibit Zhukayev in straight sets in the first round.

The other seeded player in this quarter in Marin Cilic and the ninth seed will begin his campaign by facing Oscar Otte in the first round. Cilic, who recently lost to Djokovic in the final of Tel Aviv Open is likely to set up quarterfinal clash with the Serbian in this tournament. Maxime Cressy and Karen Khachanov are the other players in this draw and they are facing each other in the first round.

Daniil Medvedev leads final quarter 

Daniil Medvedev enters Astana Open as the second seed and leads the final quarter of the draw. The Russian faces Spain’s Albert Ramos Vinolas in the first round. The only other seeded player in this quarter was Felix Auger Aliassime but the eighth seed lost his first round contest to Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut.

Agut will face the winner between Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Pavel Kotov in the second round. Mark Andre-Huesler who won the Sofia Open title, which was his maiden ATP title last week is also part of this draw and he faces Emil Ruusuvuori in the first round.
