  • Marin reached his first final this year at the Tel Aviv Open but lost to top seed Novak Djokovic in straight sets. He enters Astana Open on the ninth seed and looks to continue his form.
  • Cilic started the year by reaching back-to-back semifinals at both the Adelaide International tournaments. He then faced fourth round defeat at Australian Open.
  • He reached the quarterfinals at Qatar Open and lost to Karen Khachanov in three sets.
  • He then suffered first round exits at Dubai Tennis Championships and Indian Wells Masters. he faced second round defeat at Miami Open.
  • His best performance on clay courts was at the Italian Open, where he managed to reach the third round and lost to Cristian Garin in a three-setter.
  • At the French Open, he showed good form and defeated World No.1 Daniil Medvedev in the fourth round. He went all the way to the semifinal, where he lost to Casper Ruud.
  • He began the grass court season with a semifinal appearance at Queen’s Club Championships but missed the Wimebledon after testing positive for Covid-19.
  • He then played at the Canadian Open and was ousted from the third round. At Cincinnati Masters, he defeated Jaume Munar in straight sets in the first round and went past Emil Ruusuvuori in three sets in the second round.

  • Oscar Otte started the year at the Australian Open and bowed out from the second round.
  • He couldn’t go past the second round in any of the hard court  tournament since then at the start of the year.
  • He entered the quarterfinal at the Serbia Open this year and then reached the semifinal at the Bavarian International. At the French Open he however bowed out from the French Open from the first round.
  • At the grass court season, he reached the semifinal at the Stuttgart Open and Halle Open.
  • He bowed out from the third round at the Wimbledon this year.
  • At the year-end Grand Slam, he bowed out from the first round after losing to Hubert Hurkacz.
  • He also bowed out from the first round at the Moselle Open. Ahead of the Astana Open, he lost in the second round at Sofia Open.

Cilic vs Otte Head-to-Head: Both the players will be facing each other for the first time in their career. Cilic enters the tournament as one of the favourite and is expected to sail past Otte in straight sets in the first round.
