Asian Wrestling Championship LIVE – Friday Evening Session

  • 57kg Gold Medal Bout: Tsugumi SAKURAI (JAP) beat Anshu Malik 4-0
  • 62kg Bronze Medal: Manisha beat Lee Hanbit (KOR) 4-2
  • 65kg Gold Medal Bout: Miya Morikawa (JAP) beat Radhika 10-0.

While Anshu Malik lost the Gold Medal bout to Japanese Tsugumi Sakurai by fall 0-4 in the 57kg final, Radhika lost to Japan’s Miya Morikawa. Anshu Malik, the 20-year-old defending champion from Haryana’s Nidani village dished out a strong performance and literally toyed with her opponents to assure herself a third Asian Championship medal.

However, she fell short against a stronger Japanese opponent, losing the final by 0-4 via fall and bagged the Silver medal as a great preparation for the upcoming mega events.

She had won a bronze in the 2020 edition at home and won the 57kg title last year in Almaty. Anshu became the first Indian woman wrestler to reach the World Championship final last year and continued her good form in Asian Championships this year.

  • She overpowered Mongolia’s Bolortuya Khurelkhuu in the semifinals, beginning with a four-point throw that ensued from a double-leg attack.
  • Easy take-downs and push-out points meant that the last-four stage bout ended in just two minutes and 12 seconds.
