In what turned out to be a great race for Indian rowers Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh, the duo won a silver medal in the men’s lightweight double sculls, early on Sunday. They clocked 6:28:18s in Men’s Lightweight Doubles Scull Final A to clinch the second medal of the day for the country, finishing behind hosts China.
The Indians, who finished 11th in the Tokyo Olympics, went on to upset the odds, to seal their place on the podium. The team of Fan Junjie and Sun Man clocked 6:23.16s to take home another gold medal, their second at the Asian Games. Uzbekistan settled for a bronze medal by clocking 6:33.42s. Throughout the contest, the Indian pair gave the hosts a run for their money. With 500m to go and China managed to open up a bigger gap by building a lead of 2.73 seconds. Uzbekistan maintained its position on third.
Silver in women’s 10m air rifle team
Meanwhile, Team India began their Sunday at the Asian Games with a silver in the women’s 10m air rifle team event. The team of Mehuli Ghosh, Ramita Jindal and, Ashi Chouksey scored 1886.0 points in all to finish in the second place. The gold medal went to China, who scored 1896.6 points with an Asian record.
Not just that, Ramita and Mehuli made it to the finals of the 10m air rifle individual event as well, scoring 631.9 and 630.8, respectively. Unfortunately, Ashi ended 29th in qualification. On the other hand, the Chinese trio of Han Jiayu, Huang Yuting, and Wang Zhilin reached the final as well.
