Another Indian athlete has been caught in the doping net now. Top hammer thrower from the country, Rachna Kumari on Tuesday was banned for 12 years for failing multiple dope tests by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU). Her samples were taken out-of-competition last year and contained steroids Stanozolol, Metandienone, Dehydrochloromethyltestosterone (DHCMT), Clenbuterol.
“The AIU has banned Kumari (K.M.) Rachna (India) for 12 years from 24 November, 2023 for the Presence/Use of a Prohibited Substance (Stanozolol, Metandienone, DHCMT, Clenbuterol). DQ results from 24 September 2023,” the AIU said in a tweet.
“…and disqualification of the Athlete’s results on and since 24 September 2023, with all resulting Consequences, including the forfeiture of any titles, awards, medals, points prizes and appearance money.”
This is also Rachna’s second offence. Earlier, in 2015 she was found guilty of using Metenolone, and was banned for four years, between 2015 and 2019. Meanwhile, Rachna participated at the Asian Games 2023 in China and finished ninth in the competition, with a best effort of 58.13m.
In June last year, she participated at the National Inter-State Championships in Bhubaneswar, and recorded a best throw of 65.03m, to take the gold. Apart from that, she also won the bronze medal at the National Games in Goa, with an effort of 69.85m. Just a few days back, the news of quarter-miler Nirmala Sheoran being caught in doping surfaced.
