China has clearly dominated the Asian Games so far, and without any doubt, will continue to do so. After the medal events got underway, the Chinese have risen to the top of the table with 20 golds already, out of which eight have come from rowing alone. They have not given an inch to rowers from other countries, to even come near them, let alone compete.
So far, they have golds in men’s lightweight doubles sculls, men’s eight, doubles sculls, and singles sculls in the men’s category. To go with that, their women have won in lightweight doubles sculls, four, and doubles sculls. With a few more events to go, China would like to add a couple of more gold medals there too.
But winning gold medals in rowing does not come easy. It’s physically demanding, or even perhaps a brutal sport to say the least. On Monday, the official Twitter page of the Asian Games shared a picture of a champion rower, whose hands were full of blisters. The picture is either of Chinese rower Zou Jiaqi or her teammate Qiu Xiuping. The duo won a gold in women’s lightweight doubles sculls.
India at Asian Games Rowing 2023
The Indian rowing team of Ashish Kumar, Bheem Singh, Jaswinder Singh, and Punit Kumar brought home a bronze medal for the country, in the men’s four rowing final. After starting out slowly in the race, the Indian quartet somehow managed to be in the medals, with a late push. The Indian team clocked the timing of 6:10.81, behind China (6:10.04) and Uzbekistan (6:04.96).
In another event, the team of Parminder Singh, Sukhmeet Singh, Jakar Khan, and Satnam Singh secured another bronze in the final of the men’s quadruple sculls. With the timings of 6:08.61, India took home the bronze. The gold medal was won by China (6:02.65) and the silver medal was bagged by Uzbekistan (6:04.64).
