The 28-year-old suffered a severe head injury and was admitted to a hospital along with his brother Vishant. As per a report in Hindustan Times, both players received multiple stitches on their heads.
The report suggests that Vishal was in Delhi to attend the national camp for the Asian Games-bound players, but his participation is now doubtful due to the incident. It all happened when a judo coach and 15 others attacked the two brothers at Dwarka for declining to submit his name as his coach for the quadrennial event.
“The incident happened at 8 pm last night at Ramphal Chowk, Dwarka, Sector 7. The coach called us there and he was waiting with 14-15 people. They attacked with rods, bricks, and sticks,” Vishant alleged.
“We have two coaches in our academy here where we train. We didn’t want to train under him, but he wanted my brother took his (name) for the Asian Games so that he could be included. I have 14-15 stitches on the head and my ear is also injured. Vishal also has 13 stitches on his head,” Vishant said.
Asian Games all but Over for Vishal Ruhil
Meanwhile, Vishal Ruhil’s condition will be assessed on Sunday. “The doctors will assess our condition tomorrow. Vishal wants to compete at the Asian Games, it is a lifetime opportunity for him. The doctors will take a call tomorrow when to discharge him,” Vishant said.
Interestingly, this is not the first time that such an attack has taken place on a kurash player. Back in July, at Delhi’s Olympic Bhawan, Neha Thakur was attacked by a fellow competitor, who was fighting for a rival faction within the federation.
