Artur Beterbiev boxing career in Amateur
Beterbiev competed as light-heavy and heavyweight in his amateur career and finished 295-5 overall. He defeated Kenneth Egan and Ismail Sillakh, among others, to win the 2006 European Amateur Boxing Championships. In 2006, he defeated Egor Mekhontsev but fell short against two-time world champion Evgeny Makarenko.
He defeated Sergey Kovalev, the eventual undisputed light-heavyweight champion, in the semi-finals in 2007 to get to the World Championships. He then defeated Evgeny Makarenko in the championship match. He met the unknown Abbos Atoev in the World Championships finals, but he lost in shock.
