Arshad Nadeem receives Buffalo as unique gift after coming home with Paris Olympics gold

The javelin thrower’s journey was far from easy, with his training and participation in international competitions often funded by the collective efforts of his village and family members.

Arshad Nadeem, Pakistan’s pride and newly crowned Olympic champion in javelin, returned home to a hero’s welcome after his historic triumph in Paris. Nadeem’s extraordinary feat of throwing the javelin 92.97 metres not only earned him a gold medal but also set an Olympic record, pushing India’s Neeraj Chopra to second place. Upon his return, the celebrations were not limited to just cash awards and accolades from the nation; his father-in-law, Muhammad Nawaz, had a special gift waiting—a buffalo, a symbol of honour in their rural village.

Symbol of Honour and Tradition: Buffalo

In the rural heartlands of Punjab, where Arshad Nadeem hails from, gifting a buffalo is considered a mark of great respect and value. Muhammad Nawaz, speaking to local media, explained that this gesture aligns with the traditions and values of their village. “Nadeem takes great pride in his roots,” Nawaz said. “Despite his global success, his heart remains in his village, where he continues to live with his parents and brothers.”

Nawaz shared that the decision to gift a buffalo was not just a reflection of tradition but also a recognition of Nadeem’s humble beginnings and his connection to his rural upbringing.

Humble Beginning and Relentless Dedication

Nawaz recounted the early days of Nadeem’s journey, highlighting the struggles he faced before achieving international fame. Six years ago, when Nadeem married Nawaz’s youngest daughter, Ayesha, he was a man of limited means but immense passion. “He used to do small jobs and run errands, but his dedication to javelin was unwavering,” Nawaz recalled. “He practised constantly, throwing the javelin in the fields, determined to make a mark in the sport.”

The javelin thrower’s journey was far from easy, with his training and participation in international competitions often funded by the collective efforts of his village and family members. Despite these challenges, Nadeem’s determination never wavered, eventually leading him to Olympic glory.

Humble Champion: Arshad Nadeem

Even with his newfound fame, Nadeem remains grounded and connected to his roots. Nawaz spoke highly of his son-in-law’s humility, noting that Nadeem has never let success change his approach to life. “Whenever he comes to our house, he never complains about anything and eats whatever is there,” Nawaz said.

Nadeem’s family life is as modest as his upbringing. He and Ayesha have three children, two of whom have already started attending the local primary school in their village, while the youngest is still at home.

Celebrating Success, Preserving Tradition

As Arshad Nadeem basks in the glory of his Olympic success, the gift of a buffalo from his father-in-law serves as a reminder of his roots and the values that have shaped him. In a world where material wealth often defines success, this gesture stands out as a tribute to tradition, humility, and the enduring connection to one’s origins.
