India won’t go empty-handed from Paris Olympics, as far as wrestling is concerned. After two near misses — Nisha Dahiya and Vinesh Phogat — the contingent desperately wanted a medal from Aman Sehrawat, and the 21-year-old did not disappoint. He beat Puerto Rican Darian Cruz 13-5 in the bronze medal bout on Friday.
But then still, Aman wasn’t a happy man. He was in Paris Olympics for a gold medal, and that unfortunately did not happen for him. Speaking with media Olympics Khel, he went on to say, “I thought of gold but didn’t happen this time. Hope to win it in LA28. Thanks to everyone in the country who were supporting me.”
Not just that, the former U-23 World Champion added, that keeping the weight in check was a difficult task and he didn’t sleep the entire night because of that. “Keeping a track of the weight was very important. We didn’t sleep whole night. We trained at night!”
Aman Sehrawat’s Bronze Medal, As it Happened
Aman started the bout on the back foot as Cruz started with a leg hold, and was on the verge of pinning him down and getting a few points. But the Indian was smart to move out of the playing area and then the passivity zone, to concede only one point. From there on, he kept attacking the Puerto Rican and got points galore.
