The Indian wrestlers continue to disappoint at the ongoing UWW World Wrestling Championships, as they have not been able to bring a medal for the country, with the freestyle competitions for women almost coming to an end. On Tuesday, Neha Sharma lost in the bronze medal match against Anatasia Blayvas of Germany in Belgrade.

Even though the 55 kg category is the non-Olympic one, the loss would hurt as Neha came tantalizingly close to a medal. On the other hand, Sarita Mor (57 kg), Divya Kakran (76 kg), Antim Kundu (65 kg), and Neelam (50 kg) also bowed out of the competition without reaching the medal rounds. But there is still a lot to look forward to, as U20 World Champion Antim Panghal will be in action on Wednesday in the 53 kg category. Manisha Bhanwala (62 kg) and Priyanka (68 kg) will also be in the fray for medals in the Olympic weight categories.
Olympic Quotas at Stake
These UWW World Wrestling Championships become all the more important for the Indian wrestlers as, here Paris 2024 Olympic quotas are at stake. As many as 90 places are up for grabs, and the Indian team has not been able to get even a single one till now. The men’s freestyle wrestlers drew a blank in the medals as well as the Olympics quotas section.

Looking ahead at Asian Games
While the performance should have come by the Indian wrestlers at the UWW World Wrestling Championships, they could salvage some pride at the Asian Games. Even though no Olympic quotas are on offer at the continental event, but the freestyle teams will have great practice as the men will be up against Iran, and the women against Japan, which are the best nations in the respective categories.
