Lakshya Sen [IND] vs Sourabh Verma [IND]

Lakshya Sen, who enters the tournament after reaching the finals of the German Open 2022, defeated compatriot Sourabh Verma comfortably with a 21-17, 21-7 victory in the first round. The World No.11 who suffered a blister in the German Open, didn’t show any sign of discomfort as he advanced to the second round.

  • He then made very light work to close the contest by winning the second set 21-7.
  • Lakshya Sen started the second set on a different league as he raced to a 10-0 lead.

  • Lakshya Sen wins the first set 21-17 in a tense finish.
  • Both the Indians fight it out but Lakshya maintains a slender lead throughout the first set break as the score read 11-10.

Kidambi Srikanth [IND] beats Kantaphon Wangcharoen [THL] 21-18, 21-14

World No.12 Kidambi Srikkanth began his All England campaign with a 21-18, 21-14 victory against Thailand’s Kantaphon Wangcharoen. Srikanth dominated the game throughout and won the match without much fuss. He will next face Indonesia’s Anthony Sinisuka Ginting in the second round.

  • Srikanth continued to dominate the game as he won the set comfortably 21-14 to advance to the next round.
  • Srikanth maintains his lead into the break with the score at 11-5

  • Srikanth clinches the first set 21-18.
  • Trailing 9-14, Wangcharoen however made a strong comeback as he levelled the scores 14-14.
  • Srikanth entered the break with a lead of 119, -5.
  • Srikanth soon won four consecutive points to lead 6-2
  • Wangcharoen led the game 2-1 early on.

PV Sindhu [IND] beats Wang Zhi Yi [CHN] 21-18, 21-13. 

Sixth seed Sindhu was top notch in her game as she eased past her Chinese opponent with a 21-18, 21-13 victory in the first round. Right from the start, Sindhu asserted her dominance and Zhi Yi was no match to the Indian’s standard as the match lasted just 42 minutes. Sindhu will now face either Sayaka Takahashi of Japan or Thailand’s Supanida Katethong in the next round.

  • The Indian won the set comfortably as the final scores read 21-18, 21-13.
  • Sindhu however took five consecutive points to extend the lead 16-6.
  • The Chinese managed to reduced the deficit by five points as she went into the break with the score at 6-11.
  • Sindhu started off the second set with a complete domination as she took a massive 9-0 lead.

  • Despite the Chinese, who worked hard to reduced the deficit, Sindhu dominated to take the first set 21-18.
  • Sindhu enters the break with a 11-7 lead over her Chinese opponent.
  • Sindhu began the game on a positive note, taking a quick 6-0 lead.

Saina Nehwal [IND] beats Beatriz Corrales [SPA] 21-17, 21-19

Saina Nehwal made a terrific start to her All-England Open campaign as she put up a superb fight to defeat Spain’s Beatriz Corrales 21-17, 21-19 in straight sets. Saina won the first set comfortably but looked as though the game would enter into the third set as She was trailing 8-17 in the second set. But Saina rolled back the years as she fought back valiantly and earned nine successive points to level the scores 17-17. From then on it was Saina’s game as she won the second set and the match. She will now face Akane Yamaguchi in the second round.

  • She won the next point to complete a terrific come-from behind victory in the second set to win the match.
  • Despite a tough challenge from her opponent, Saina managed to take the lead 20-19 to bring up the match point.
  • The Indian however made a terrific comeback as she notched up 9 consecutive points to level the scores 17-17.
  • Beatriz continued to assert her dominance as she raced to a 17-8 lead.
  • Beatriz enters the break with a six-point lead as the scores read 11-5.
  • The Spaniard then takes five consecutive points to take the lead 7-1.
  • Beatriz starts off with a 2-0 lead.

  • Saina however managed to hold on to the lead and won the last three points to clinch the first set 21-17.
  • When the scores were at 18-11, Beatriz suddenly made a strong comeback as she notched up 6 consecutive points to reduced trail behind by just a solitary point as the score read 18-17.
  • Saina continued her dominance as she raced to a 14-8 lead.
  • Saina managed to hold on to the lead as she went into the break with the score at 11-8.
  • Saina then took three consecutive points to take the lead 7-4.
  • Scores were level at 4-4 as both the players started off well.

Sai Praneeth [IND] loses to Victor Axelsen [DEN] 22-20, 21-11

  • The World No.1 closed the game cleanly with a comprehensive 21-11 win in the second set to advance to the next round
  • Sai Praneeth committed too many errors that didn’t help his cause as the lead swell to 15-4.
  • Axelsen completely dominated the set as he went into the break with a lead of 11-4.
  • Axelsen races to a 4-0 lead.

Game 2

  • The Indian however couldn’t close the game as Axelsen manages to win the set 22-20.
  • Sai Praneeth fights back and takes the lead 19-18
  • Axelsen maintains lead into the break at 11-8
  • Axelsen races to 5-1 lead.
  • Sai Praneeth gets the first point.

Sameer Verma [IND] loses to Mark Caljouw [NET] 18-21, 11-21. 

  • Caljouw dominated completely from then on to clinch the second set 21-11.
  • Caljouw enters the break with a lead of 11-6.
  • Caljouw takes back the lead and extends it to 8-4.
  • Sameer Verma takes early lead –  3-2

Game 2

  • Caljouw wins first set 21-18.
  • Caljouw takes lead for the first time in the contest. 19-17
  • Caljouw levels the scores 16-16.
  • Sameer Verma fights hard to ensure that his opponent doesn’t take the lead as he goes 13-10 up.
  • Caljouw makes a good comeback to level the scores 6-6.
  • Sameer Verma races to a 5-2 lead.

HS Prannoy [IND] loses to Kunlavut Vitidsarn [THL] – 15-21, 22-24

India’s start to the 2022 All England Open campaign, didn’t turnout to be a positive one as HS Prannoy lost to German Open Champion Kunlavut Viditsarn 15-21, 22-24 in the first round of the men’s singles.

HS Prannoy started the game on a positive note by taking an early lead. The Indian brought forth his attacking game, to maintain a narrow lead of 7-6. But the Thai player was quick to bounce back to enter the break with a narrow lead of 11-10. From then on the Indian couldn’t make a comeback as the Thai sealed the first set 21-15.

In the second set too, Vitidsarn was on the front foot but the Indian was resolute and didn’t allow his opponent to take a massive lead. The game went neck-to-neck as both the playuers were 19-19. Prannoy then took the lead and had game point at 21-20, but the 20-year old Thai made a solid comeback to clinch the set and the game 24-22.
