Lakshya Sen is on a Dream Run in the BWF World Tour as he has entered yet another quarter-final. Lakshya started the tournament with a straight set victory against compatriot Sourabh Verma. He then faced World No. 3 Anders Anderson. The unseeded Indian dominated his opponent completely with a 21-16, 21-18 victory in a match that lasted for 55 minutes to enter the quarter-finals.
Lakshya Sen entered the tournament after reaching the final of German Open 2022 last week, where he went down to Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn in straight sets, after suffering a blister. He has however continued his terrific form this year in the All England Open with his brilliant dominant display. He will fight with China’s Lu Guangzu for a place in the semi-final.
Meanwhile, unseeded Guangzu defeated compatriot Lu Guangzu in three sets in the first round before defeating Hong Kong’s Angus Ng-ka Long in straight sets in the second round. Both Lakshya and Guangzu are looking to make their maiden appearance in the All England Open semi-final.
Men’s Doubles
Satwiksairaj – Chirag [IND] vs Gideon – Sukamuljo [INO]
India’s men’s doubles pair of Satwik Sairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty are vying to enter the semis as they face the No.1 seeded pair Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo in the quarter-finals on Friday.
The Indian duo had a good start to the year by becoming the first Indian pair to win the Indian Open title. They then withdrew from the 2022 German Open and returned to the All England Open. The Indian duo faced Scottish pair Alexander Dunn and Adam Hall and defeated them in straight sets in the first round. They then made light work of German duo Mark Lamsfuss and Marvin Seidel by defeating them 21-7, 21-7.
The fifth seeded Indian pair will have a big task against the No.1 seed. Meanwhile, the Indonesian duo defeated French duo Ronan Labar and Lucas Corvee in straight sets in the first round. They however faced a good challenge from Japanese pair Akira Koga and Taichi Saito in the second and managed to pull off a 15-21, 21-18, 21-18 victory to reach the quarter-final.
Women’s doubles –
Jolly – Gopichand [IND] vs Lee-so-hi- Shin-Seung-Chan [SKO]
India’s women’s doubles pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand made a stellar debut in the All England Open 2022. They faced Thailand’s Aimsaard sisters in the first round and defeated them in three sets. In the next round, they faced Indonesia’s Greysia Polii and Aprihani Rahayu and won the game in straight sets to make their quarter0final appearance. The South Korea pair meanwhile faced Stoeva sisters in the first round and defeated them in three sets. They then qualified after Chinese duo Liu Xuanxuan and Xia Yuting retired midway in the second round. The Indian duo will face a tough challenge against the South Korean duo but they will look to fight it out and extend their dream run in the tournament.
