For the first time ever, the Blue Tigers, who are placed at the 101st position in the FIFA rankings, have earned their spot in two back-to-back editions of the AFC Asian Cup. Igor Stimac’s team secured their place in the 2023 edition by coming in first in their group during the third round of qualifiers, which included Hong Kong, Afghanistan, and Cambodia.
India has played in the AFC Asian Cup tournament on four previous occasions, in 1964, 1984, 2011, and 2019, and will make their fifth appearance in the tournament. In 1964, they came second place but in the following three editions, they were unable to advance past the group stage.

The commencement of the AFC Asian Cup 2023 will be on January 12, 2024. On February 10, 2024, the tournament’s last game will take place. The round of 16 will consist of the top two teams from each of the six groups plus the four best-performing third-placed teams.
In 2023, the AFC Asian Cup will take place in eight different stadiums which include Education City Stadium, Al Janoub Stadium, Jassim bin Hamad Stadium, Al Bayt Stadium, Khalifa International Stadium, Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium, Al Thumama Stadium, and Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium. During the 2022 FIFA World Cup, six of these locations were utilized.
