Indian squash player Abhay Singh on Saturday won his eighth PSA title with a convincing 3-0 victory over Elliott Morris Devred of Wales in the final of the Goodfellow Classic. In 40 minutes, the top-seeded Indian—ranked 66th in the world—won 11-7, 11-9, and 11-9 to win his second Challenger title of the year, following their victory at the JSW Willingdon in Mumbai last month. It was his 13th career final for the Indian as Abhay managed to win the USD $9000 Challenger event.
In the quarterfinals, Abhay defeated Frenchman Maceo Levy 13-11, 11-7, 11-3 in 33 minutes, and then defeated Egyptian Abdelrahman Abdelkhalek 11-5, 6-11, 11-7, 11-6 in the semifinals to win the title.
Abhay Singh rose to fame last year when his exceptional performance led the Indian men’s team to victory over arch-rivals Pakistan at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, resulting in a historic gold medal win. Additionally, he and Anahat Singh teamed up to secure the mixed doubles bronze medal.
The 25-year-old Indian Squash Academy trainee is slated to compete in the Canadian Men’s Open during the first week of March.
