The Pakistan Olympic Association has named seven athletes who will be a part of the country’s official contingent to take part in the Paris Olympics. The neighbouring country will only take part in events in three disciplines – shooting, swimming and athletics. Incidentally, the country is sending just 7 athletes for the event while naming 11 officials to accompany them to France.
More Pakistan officials than athletes for Paris Olympics
The seven-member contingent will comprise of four men and three women. Pakistan failed to secure quotas in other disciplines including hockey, wrestling among others. In total, the contingent would comprise of 7 athletes and 11 officials, taking the count to 18.
While ace javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem is the country’s only gold medal prospect, Pakistan will pin their hopes on Faiqa Riaz to fetch a medal in 100m race. Jahanara and Arshad will be the flag bearers for the country at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics.
