Besides Patel, India skipper Rohit Sharma also shone in India’s win. The opener scored an unbeaten to help the Men in Blue draw level ahead of the series decider in Hyderabad.

AT one point of time, one was not aware if the game would go ahead due to wet conditions. The second T20 finally did go ahead, an eight-overs per side match was contested. However, Patel revealed that the Indian team bus was caught in traffic.

“If we looked behind as well as front of us when we were coming, there was so moch of traffic. I did not think that we will be able to reach the stadium. En route, I also saw a board in the road, which had Nagpur and Hyderabad written. I felt that we should head to Hyderabad directly,” Patel said.

“We were in the bus, and we both know the kind of fun we had in the bus. It was so much fun, and then it was only when we took the wrong side then we managed to reach the venue.”

When the game started, Patel was shouldered responsibility and given the ball in the second over itself. He delivered from the front, scalping two wickets in his full quota of two overs in the match. More importantly, he just conceded 13 runs. It was his brilliant control and accurate bowling, which helped him shine in the contest.

“When I started bowling, I knew there was not much help for the bowlers. The plan was to keep bowling wicket to wicket. I was changing my line and length, depending on where the batters wanted to hit. The planning worked,” Patel said. “As it was a short match, I knew players would target bowlers. So I kept it simple. You have to brave during the time.”

Chahal explained, “we have given him the nickname Dandiya King. Dandiya is famous in Gujarat (Patel’s hometown). The way he is playing wickets as dandiya, his stump-to-stump bowling and taking wickets. Hope the same will continue in Hyderabad and win the series.”
