Casemiro: Manchester United and Brazilian defensive midfielder Casemiro is considered as one of this generation’s best players. That’s why many people wonder which players of this generation he admires the most. He has named Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Neymar Jr as his top 3 choices for the greatest players of this generation. Taking to the Placar magazine, Manchester United and Brazil’s star midfielder, Casemiro was recently asked about his opinion on who are the three greatest players of his generation. He said, “Lionel Messi left his mark. You can’t deny it. He was always a rival, with Barcelona and with Argentina, there was no way to escape it. But those who like football, like Messi. It was a pleasure playing against him. He is a guy who does not need comment. You just have to admire him.”

He added, “I had the pleasure of seeing Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar, who are the three greatest of my generation. I saw [the Brazilian] Ronaldo, I saw Zinedine Zidane but, without a doubt, these three are the best of my time. I never played against Cristiano, thank God! He gave me many titles and victories.” Casemiro spent 9 seasons at Real Madrid before joining Manchester United at the beginning of last season. He played alongside Ronaldo at the club for 5 seasons at Real Madrid.

The duo played 122 matches together and won four Champions League trophies and one La Liga title. When Casemiro joined Manchester United in 2022, he got another half of a season to play with Ronaldo at the Premier League club. The duo shared a good chemistry at the club and it seems Casemiro has great respect for Ronaldo. During his time with Los Blancos, he played against Neymar for years when the forward played for Barcelona. However, the two also played and still play together for the Brazil national team.

Casemiro and Neymar played together 53 times for the Brazil national team. Even though they were rivals at the club level, the two have a good relationship. At both club and national levels, he played against Lionel Messi over the years. This was not the first time he expressed his admiration for Messi. He previously once said, “Messi made an era… Whoever loves football, will love Messi. It was a pleasure to play against him. He is someone who needs no comment you can only admire.”

Casemiro already established himself as an extremely talented defensive midfielder during his time with Real Madrid. He had helped them win five Champions League titles with the club. After winning all possible trophies with Los Blancos, the Brazilian joined Manchester United last year. He became the coach’s favourite and a regular starter very quickly. There, he helped the Red Devils end a 6-year long trophy drought by winning the Carabao Cup. Man United and Casemiro are approaching the upcoming season with new zeal to win more trophies.
