After bowing out from the semifinal at the French Open 2023, Alcaraz lost his World No.1 spot in the rankings. Novak Djokovic displaced the Spaniard at the top after winning the title at the Roland Garros.

Ahead of the Wimbledon, Alcaraz decided to utilise the Queen’s Club Championships as his warm-up for the upcoming Grand Slam event. It was only his third grass court event in his career. He struggled initially in the first round. But he soon found his groove and came a long wasy as he went on to defeat Alex De Minaur 6-4, 6-4 in the final to claim his maiden title on the surface.

“Of course, recovering the No. 1 before Wimbledon, it gives you extra motivation. It gives you extra confidence coming into Wimbledon,” said Alcaraz. However he is not overjoyed and says it doesn’t make much of a difference going into Wimbledon. “But it doesn’t change too much if I play Wimbledon as the No. 2 or the No. 1,” he added.

The victory has now propelled him back to the top of the rankings. He will now enter a Grand Slam event as the top seed for the second successive time. At the French Open this year, he was the top seed.
