Super middleweight Saul “Canelo” Alvarez continues to reign supreme. On Saturday night in Guadalajara, Mexico, Alvarez successfully defended his undisputed super middleweight title by pummeling John Ryder over the course of 12 rounds to win a resounding unanimous decision.

How Many Times Did Canelo Alvarez Knockdown John Ryder Tonight?

Round 1: Canelo wastes little time in attempting to land a left punch to the body, but Ryder also attempted to relax his grip but had not yet made any landings.

In an attempt to experience some success inside the ring, he put the Mexican back against the ropes. However, Canelo had his hands raised and pushed Ryder away.

The British fighter wanted to battle close range and was attempting to close the distance. Canelo struck back with a quick right hand before landing another left to the body.

Canelo finished the round with a couple of solid blows after a sufficiently assured start.

Round 2: This ring was quite little with no place to escape.

Canelo fairly deliberated his shot selection as the bout progressed. This round, Ryder was a little more circumspect, backing off as Canelo threw a few powerful right hands.

Ryder’s attempts to restrain the Mexican were mostly unsuccessful; he was merely ignored. The British fighter was focusing more on the counterpunches than firing many jabs.

Round 3: Prior to Alvarez’s right hand causing blood to start pouring from Ryder’s nose, Ryder fired off a couple of rounds. Ryder attempted to counter Alvarez’s strong right punches as he continued to deliver them. Alvarez dug a left to the body once more. Ryder was forced to the ropes by Alvarez’s cutting off of the already small ring, despite the fact that Ryder did deliver a powerful left-hand chop. Late in the round, Ryder seemed to start to feel the effects of Alvarez’s right-hand bombing.

Round 4: Alvarez began by landing a left hook to the body and a follow-up left hook to the head. Ryder attempted to start acting harsher on the inside by muscling in, utilizing a little of his head, and looking for openings for uppercuts. After returning fire with more powerful body blows, Alvarez threw right punches to Ryder’s face, largely striking his already broken and bleeding nose. Alvarez once more pounded Ryder’s ribs with his left hand before landing a right punch upstairs. Ryder made it through another round, but he had a strong sense that the fight would end eventually.

Round 5: Alvarez immediately resumed his body attack following the jump. Several jabs and a right hand from Alvarez connected. Ryder fell against the ropes after Alvarez threw a straight right after landing a jab. Alvarez calmly searched for his shots while Ryder beat the count and tried to shoot back. Ryder continued to make things happen by landing a few left straights. Alvarez’s right hand struck him square in the face. Ryder was able to get out of the fight.

Round 6: Ryder started off with some solid punches in an effort to keep Alvarez occupied and sincere in his assault. Ryder was able to score two body blows and one to the head, but an Alvarez right caused Ryder to falter once more. Ryder delivered a powerful straight left before landing an uppercut. Alvarez struck with a right hand, followed by a jab, before digging in.

Round 7: At the beginning of the round, Ryder appeared to have totally recovered from his earlier issues. Alvarez returned fire with a series of punches and a straight right hand, but Ryder also scored some more hits. Their right hand of Alvarez glanced against Ryder’s temple, causing him to momentarily sway yet maintain his balance. Ryder’s nose continued to bleed as Alvarez continued to hit him with straight right punches and jabs. Even so, Ryder made a few solid right-hands. Ryder’s body appeared to have some bruises from the shots after Alvarez connected with another left to the body.

Round 8: With more left hooks to the body and overhand rights to the face, Alvarez stayed aggressive. Ryder continues to display bravery by persevering and making an effort to fight, but Alvarez has been the only one to hit punches with any genuine force or significance. Ryder was troubled after another Alvarez right hit the ground. Alvarez’s arms picked off Ryder’s attempts to flurry, and then he connected with a right hand that knocked Ryder to the ground even though the referee called it a slip.

Round 9: While none of Ryder’s combos or jabs appeared to have any real effect, they did prevent Alvarez from briefly letting his own hands go. Alvarez answered with pointed blows. Before the heads collided, Alvarez connected with a jab and a right hand. Ryder tripped as a result of another right from Alvarez. Ryder attempted to strike back and took another right, which once more made his legs shaky. Ryder returned fire with a few powerful blows before Ryder shouted at Alvarez to keep fighting and fired more shots.

Round 10: Starting the round on stable legs once more, Ryder delivered a few clean counter lefts. Before Alvarez began delivering his own blows, Ryder scored a number of hits. Alvarez once more made a hard landing to the right. Ryder may have won the opening round even though Alvarez delivered a strong right hand late.

Round 11: Ryder once more attempted to counterpunch but Alvarez counterpunched back with two right punches to the body. Alvarez successfully connected on a few left hooks and right hands. Ryder persisted in peppering Alvarez with strikes here and there, but overall Alvarez’s punches were just more impactful when they connected. Ryder was pulled off his position by a right hand from Alvarez that was half-blocked but still connected after a double jab.

Round 12: More of the same, with Alvarez delivering the more powerful blows as Ryder keeps trying to force anything to happen. Ryder made an effort to keep the fight inside by preventing Alvarez from throwing long blows. Ryder was stopping the punches until the final buzzer, despite Alvarez’s apparent desire to land a bomb to end the fight.
