Canelo 2023: Boxing News: Canelo Alvarez has cited John Ryder as his next potential opponent whom he wants to fight in January in London. 32-5 as a professional, Ryder is currently the WBO Interim champion at 168 lbs and a mandatory challenger to Canelo’s undisputed super middleweight status. Although several fighters like Demetrius Andrade and Dmitry Bivol are considered to be better opponents for Alvarez, the Mexican boxer seems to have picked ‘The Gorilla’ Ryder among all.
Revealing his 2-23 plans, Canelo Alvarez said, “It would be interesting to fight him in London. It would be very big. But the truth is I have not negotiated an opponent yet. I’m focussed on the rehab of my hand, see how I feel in January, and see what the doctor tells me.”

Having beaten Gennadiy Golovkin in his last outing, Canelo Alvarez may not quit the 168 lbs category soon. However, he has already faced backlash in opting to face John Ryder. Here’s how social media reacted to Canelo Alvarez’s 2023 wish.

I understand Canelo has won titles but if you look at his career his biggest fights were always tainted in controversy. Imo he’s not among the top 10 best fighters itw
1. Inoue 2. Crawford 3. Usyk 4. Bivol 5. Devin 6. Beterbiev 7. Estrada 8. Fury 9. Spence 10. Jermell

He deserves a break, if he intends on climbing back up to 175. Unlike most elite fighters, Canelo makes the big fights happen, doesn’t duck anyone and chases the best of the best, what’s more he fights more frequently than others, he deserves all the time off

After Canelo’s maiden boxing loss against Floyd Mayweather, he seemed invincible until Dmitry Bivol handed the Mexican his second professional defeat. Bivol beat Alvarez in a 12-rounds war and defended his 175 lbs world title in style. Canelo Alvarez claimed to rematch Bivol somewhere down the line, but there might have been a change in his plans.
