Canelo Alvarez: Interested In A Boxing Match With Jake Paul

Prior to his Saturday fight against Jermell Charlo, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez claimed he doesn't appreciate Jake Paul as a fighter but still pondered the notion of one day facing him.

Boxing icon Canelo Alvarez is surprisingly approachable, but only when the circumstances are right. Alvarez did admit that Paul has a business-savvy mentality, though. You ‘need to respect’ what Jake Paul does, according to Canelo Alvarez.

Canelo Alvarez, the current super middleweight boxing champion, has been questioned about facing YouTuber turned professional boxer Jake Paul for a while, but his most recent reaction is the most encouraging one he’s yet offered.

Interested In A Boxing Match For Jake Paul vs. Canelo Alvarez

Prior to his Saturday fight against Jermell Charlo, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez claimed he doesn’t appreciate Jake Paul as a fighter but still pondered the notion of one day facing him during an appearance on the Full Send Podcast earlier this week.

After quitting professional boxing, Alvarez, 33, can yet enter the ring with Paul in an exhibition. However, Canelo was eager to deny that he appreciated him as a fighter while praising his business acumen.

Insidesport

“When I’m done with boxing, why not?  I think it’s good because other people who never watch boxing, they don’t know anything about boxing. They wanna watch Jake Paul because he brings fans from other worlds, not boxing fans. That’s good, because everybody enjoy it. What they do, I think they do for business and you need to respect that.”

Canelo seems to be warming up more and more to the notion of taking on Jake Paul. He appeared on The Breakfast Club just a month ago and, for the first time, showed some receptivity to the notion. He then said the following:

“Yeah maybe, but not right now. For me, not right now because I’m chasing other things in my career but you never know, maybe later. Yeah.”
