Canada Open Highlights: PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen march into quarterfinal

PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen entered the quarterfinal at the Canada Open 2023. Meanwhile, Men's Doubles pair Krishnaprasad Garaga and Vishnuvardhan Goud Panjala bowed out from the tournament.

Canada Open Highlights: PV Sindhu has received a walkover in the second round of the Canada Open 2023. The eighth seeded Indian was set to face Natsuki Nidaira however the Japanese has withdrawn from the second round encounter on Thursday, 6th July 2023. Lakshya Sen also notched up a 21-15 21-11 win over Brazil’s Ygor Coelho in 31 minutes.

Lakshya Sen vs Ygor Coelho

Sen faced a tough battle against Coelho, who erased a 0-2 deficit with a four-point burst and then kept it tight. The duo moved neck and neck till 13-13 when Sen managed to march ahead and sealed the contest after jumping to 20-15 with a five-point burst. In the second game, Sen hardly had any issues as he galloped to 12-2 and took giant strides to comfortably seal the match.

PV Sindhu vs Natsuki Nidaira

Sindhu has made it to the quarterfinal in a tournament for the third time in the BWF Tour this season. The eighth seed began her campaign with a dominant victory against Canada’s Talia Ng. In the second round she was given a walkover by Japan’s Natsuki Nidaira.

Sindhu will face 2022 Indonesia Masters champion Gao Fang Jie, who had played an important role in China’s win at the Asia Mixed Team Championships this year.

Krishnaprasad Garaga/Vishnuvardhan Goud Panjala vs Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan

Krishnaprasad Garaga and Vishnuvardhan Goud Panjala couldn’t do much against second seeded Indonesian pair Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan for a spot in the quarterfinal. The Indian pair was completely dominated by the experienced Indians.
