Canada Open 2023: Schedule, Top seeds, Draws, Check All you need to know

With Paris 2024 Olympics qualification on their minds, PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen aim to regain their form at the Canada Open 2023.

Canada Open 2023: After a week’s break, the BWF Tour is all set to resume. The Canada Open is all set to get underway from Tuesday, 4th July 2023. Kunlavut Vitidsarn is the top seed in Men’s SIngles after Viktor Axelsen withdrew from the tournament. Akane Yamaguchi meanwhile is the top seed in the Women’s Singles. PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen will headline India’s action in the tournament.

Men’s Singles

Lakshya Sen is the only Indian in Men’s Singles. The 19-ranked Sen has suffered first-round exits in four events with his best performance being the Indonesia Masters in January where he reached the quarterfinals.

He will face a tough challenge in the first round. He will be facing second seed Kunlavut Vitidsarn in the opening round in Men’s Singles. Lakshya Sen is also present in a quarter that has seventh seed Kanta Tsuneyama.

Women’s Singles

Star Indian shuttler PV Sindhu is the fourth seed in Women’s Singles. The former world no. 2 slipped to 12 in the women’s singles rankings and she will have to make up for the lost time in the Paris Olympics qualification cycle (May 1-April 28, 2024).

Sindhu’s best performance this year has been a sliver at the Madrid Masters Super 300 event in April and since then she has made first-round exits in two tournaments, while in another, she lost in the second round.

Sindhu will face Canada’s Talia Ng in the first round. She is present in a quarter that has eighth seeded Nozomi Okuhara as the only other seeded player.

Insidesport

Tasnim Mir and Ruthvika Shivani Gadde are the only other Indians in the Women’s Singles. Tasnim Mir will face Nguyen Thuy Kin in the first round. She is in the first quarter that has top seed Akane Yamaguchi.

Ruthvika Shivani Gadde meanwhile will face Supanida Katethong in the first round. Gadde is in the final quarter that has second seed Ratchanok Intanon and seventh seed Hsu Wen-chi.

Men’s Doubles

Krishnaprasad Garaga and Vishnuvardhan Goud Panjala are the only Indians in the Men’s Doubles. The Indian duo will be facing France’s Julien Maio and William Villeger in the first round. They are in the last quarter of the draw.

The Indian duo are likely to face second seeded Indonesians Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan in the second round. The quarter also has fifth seeded Chinese Taipei duo Lee Yang and Wang Chi Lin.

Women’s Doubles

Rituparna Panda and Swetaparna Panda are in the first quarter of the draws. The Panda sisters will be facing Canada’s Jacqueline Cheng and Jeslyn Chow in the first round. If they enter the second round, they will be facing Japan’s top seed Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida.

Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto are the only other Indians. They will be facing Australia’s Kaitlyn EA and Gronya Somerville in the first round. If they advance to the second round, they are likely to set up clash against second seed Jongkolphon Kititharakul and Gronya Somerville.

Mixed Doubles

Sumeeth Reddy and Ashwini Ponnappa will be pairing up in the Mixed Doubles. The unseeded Indians will be facing third seeded Japanese duo Yuki Kaneko and Misaki Matsumoto in the first round.

Bokka Navaneeth and Priya Konjengbam are the only other Indians in Mixed Doubles. They will be facing Ruttanapak Oupthong and Jhenicha Sudjaipraparat in the first round.
