BWF World Championships Finals – Srikanth loses to Loh Kean Yew: Kidambi Srikanth has lost his World Badminton Championship Finals to Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew. ikanth settles for SILVER, Loh Kean Yew wins GOLD with 21-15, 22-20 victory over Indian

Srikanth started the finals on a good note and led 11-7 at a half-way stage of the 1st game. But the 24 year old Singaporean suddenly upped the pace and won the game 21-15.

The second game was a neck to neck affair with lead exchanging hands almost every point. Srikanth led at one point of a time before Loh Kean Yew again surprised his with sudden burst of smashes and very fast net-play.

Trailing 2 match-points in the end, Srikanth saved both and levelled again at 20-20. Indian made a blunder at a very next point on the net & lost the game, match & a world title by 22-20.

The 20-year-old from Almora signed off with a creditable bronze after losing an extremely close semifinal 17-21, 21-14, 21-17 to seasoned compatriot Kidambi Srikanth on Saturday.

Women Medallist for India at the World Badminton Championship

Yamaguchi Wins Women Singles: It was a one way traffic in Women Singles Finals as Akane Yamaguchi easily defeated Tai Tzu Ying. 2nd seed Yamaguchi won 21-14, 21-11 and won her 1st world title. For Tai Tzu another disappointment as the World Championship title keeps eluding her.

Kidambi Srikanth survived a scare from young Indian challenger Lakshya Sen to enter his maiden World Championships Final. In a thrilling match, Kidambi came from behind to win the match 17-21, 21-14, 21-17. In the other semifinal, Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew stunned 3rd seed Anders Antonsen 23-21, 21-14 to reach the final. I really wanted to play my best and see where I am,” said Kidambi. “I’m just very happy to pull this off. I’m happy I could play without making too many mistakes, and even though I did make a few, I could play well when it mattered.

“It was a three-setter, 21-17 in the third, and it can’t get any closer. At the end both of us were tired and I didn’t want to make any mistakes.” said Srikanth after the win.

Srikanth Enter Finals: Kidambi Srikanth’s experience & never give up attitude took him to the finals of. The senior Indian pro was looking tired against his young compatriot in the 3rd and deciding game. But Srikanth kept his composure & nerves to finally prevail in the Semifinal clash.

Like Srikanth, Loh Kean Yew also created history for Singapore. As Srikanth is the first ever male shuttler from India to make it to the finals of World Championship, Loh Kean Yew became 1st shuttler from Singapore to enter finals.

Loh Kean Yew electric pace was too hot to handle for Anders Antonsen of Denmark.

The Singaporean’s pace, explosive attacking game and calm front court play were a potent mix that Danish shuttler couldn’t unravel.

The Dane saved six first game points but could not stop Loh from taking the match in straight games, 23-21 21-14.

Loh’s entry into the final has come in the wake of a stunning post-Olympics season which saw him win the Hylo Open and finish runner-up at the Indonesia Masters.

“I didn’t expect to come all the way into the final,” said Loh. “I’m happy I was consistent, that’s what I’ve been working on. It wasn’t easy, we were struggling to match each other, and I’m glad I could last. I’m glad to make history as the first Singaporean in the final, but it’s not over yet and I have to focus on the next match.”

Women Singles Finals LIVE: In women’s singles, top seed Tai Tzu Ying made the final with a fine win over eighth seed He Bing Jiao.

The other saw second seed Akane Yamaguchi beat China’s Zhang Yi Man.

Champions at the Denmark Open, Indonesia Masters and HSBC BWF World Tour Finals 2021, Hoki/Kobayashi will attempt to become the first Japanese to win men’s doubles gold at the World Championships. They take on China’s He Ji Ting/Tan Qian who beat Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup Rasmussen in three games.

Women Doubles Finals LIVE: Chen Qing Chen/Jia Yi Fan, 2017 champions, overcame defending titlists Mayu Matsumoto/Wakana Nagahara 21-15 21-12. Facing them in the final will be second seeds Lee Sohee/Shin Seungchan who beat compatriots Kim Soyeong/Kong Heeyong 21-18 21-17.

Mixed Doubles Finals LIVE: The mixed doubles final will feature Yuta Watanabe/Arisa Higashino against Dechapol Puavaranukroh/Sapsiree Taerattanachai. History beckons both pairs, for neither Japan nor Thailand have won this category.
