BWF World Championships 2023: The 28th edition of the BWF World Championships will get underway on 21st August 2023. Top shuttlers in the world are set to fight for the “World Champions” tag. The prestigious tournament will be held at Copenhagen, Denmark. The draws for the tournament were unveiled on Thursday., 10th August. Check Out Complete Draws.

BWF World Championships – Draws

World No.1 Viktor Axelsen, An Se-young will headline action in the singles. Men’s Doubles pair Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Ardianto, Women’s Doubles pair Chgen Qingchen and Jia Yifan and Mixed Doubles duo Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong will lead the action in doubles in the World Championships.

HS Prannoy, PV Sindhu and Men’s Doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will lead India’s charge in the tournament.

Men’s Singles

HS Prannoy and Lakshya Sen are the seeded players in Mens’ Singles. Ninth seed Prannoy will begin his BWF World Championships campaign against Finland’s Kalle Koljonen. Prannoy is placed in the first quarter of the draw and is likely to face World No.1 Viktor Axelsen in the quarterfinal. Axelsen will begin his campaign against Ireland’s Nhat Nguyen. Before this possible encounter, he is likely to set up clash against seventh seed Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew in the third round.

Lakshya Sen meanwhile is the 11th seed. The 21-year old will be facing 110th ranked Georges Julien Paul of Mauritius in the opening round. Lakshya Sen, who won a World Championships bronze medal in 2021 will face his first big challenge against third seed Kunlavut Vitidsarn in the third round.

Kidambi Srikanth is the only other Indian Men’s Singles player in the draw. Srikanth, who is the only Indian to reach the World Championship final will be unseeded in the tournament. He takes on 14th seed Kenta Nishimoto in the first round. If Srikanth advances further, he might be up against second seed Anthony Ginting in the third round.

Women’s Singles

PV Sindhu is the only Indian in the Women’s Singles at the BWF World Championships this year. Sindhu who is struggling for form this year managed to secure a seeding with her World No.15 ranking. She is in the first quarter of the draws and has received a bye from the first round. She is likely to face Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara in the second round.

The other seeded player in thgis quarter are World No.1 An Se-young, Seventh seed Ratchanok Intanon and 12th seeded American Beiwen Zhang, who defeated Sindhu much recently in the Australian Open quarterfinal.

Men’s Doubles

India’s in-form Men’s Doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty won the bronze medal at the World Championships last year. The World No.2 pair will look to better that performance in the tournament this year.

They are the second seeded duo and will begin their campaign from the second round. Leading the final quarter of the draw, they will face the winner between Ireland’s Joshua Magee and Paul Reynolds and Australia’s Kenneth Choo and Ming Lim in the second round.

The World No.2 duo are likely to face sixth seeded Indonesian pair Leo Carnando and Daniel Marthin in the third round. Other seeded players in the quarter include seventh seeded Malaysians Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi and Denmark’s Kim Astrup and Rasmus Andersen, who are the 11th seed.

Women’s Doubles

Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand are the 15th seeds in the tournament. They have received a bye to the second round. The World No.19 pair will face the winner between Chinese Taipei’s Chang Ching Hui and Yang Ching Tun in the second round.

India’s Ashwini Bhat and Shikha Gautam will also be in action in the tournament. The unseeded pair will begin their campaign against Netherlands’ Deborah Jille and Cheryl Seinen in the first round. If they advance to the second round, they are likely to face Indonesia’s 11th seed Apriyanio Rahayu and Siti Ramadhanti.

Mixed Doubles

Rohan Kapoor and Sikki Reddy will be one of the Mixed Doubles pair, who will be in action in the tournament. They will face Scotland’s Adam Hall and Julie Macpherson in the first round.

Venkat Gaurav Prasad and Juhi Dewangan will be the other Indian duo in action. They will begin their campaign against Germany’s Jones Jansen and Linda Efler. The winner of this contest will face 13th seed Rehan Kusharjanto and Lisa Kusumawati in the second round.
