BWF Rankings: India’s HS Prannoy has broken into the Top 10 in the BWF World rankings to end the year on a high. The 30-year old shuttler has jumped two places and is now the World No.9 in Men’s Singles. The BWF Rankings was updated on Tuesday that saw Prannoy breaking into the Top 10 for the second time in his career. He first made it to the elite bracket way back in 2016. Prannoy is now the second highest ranked Indian male singles player. World No.7 Lakshya Sen is ahead of him. Meanwhile, Kidambi Srikanth too has jumped up one spot to finish the year as World No.11.

Prannoy has had a terrific run in the BWF Tour this year. At the start of the year, the shuttler from Kerala was ranked World No.26. He made deep run in several tournaments out of which his best performance came in the Swiss Open in which he finished as runner-up. At the Malaysia Masters and Indonesia Open, he made it to the semifinals. He was the only Indian in singles to reach the quarterfinals of the World Championships.

His performances made him enter the BWF World Tour Finals. He was the only player from India to make an appearance in the season finale this year. Even though he couldn’t go past the group stage, he ended the tournament with a victory against World No.1 Viktor Axelsen.

In the Men’s Doubles, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty too has had a great season . They won two world tour titles this year at the Indian Open Super 500 and French Open Super 750. The duo also claimed a maiden gold at the Commonwealth Games and a bronze at the World Championships. Their performances helped them jump two spots to finish the year within the Top 5 in the rankings.

In the Women’s Singles, PV Sindhu maintained her spot as the World No.6. Women’s Doubles pair Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand climbed two spots to go up to World No.18. In the Mixed Doubles, Ishaan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto also jumped three paces to reach 21st spot.
