However, this is not the first instance of bloody fight on a football field in Brazil. Back in 2010, a referee was arrested in Rio De Janeiro for stabbing a player to death during an amateur soccer match in Barreira in Ceara state.
The referee Francisco Chaves had killed 35-year-old Jose da Silva and injured his brother Francisco in a fight, after whistling for a foul against the visiting team.
In 2013, another horrific incident occurred where a referee fatally stabbed a player during an argument over red card. The referee was later lynched to death by the victim’s family and crowd.
