When asked as to why Mike felt the urge to bite off his opponent’s ears, he said that he doesn’t actually know the reason yet, but when the differences occurred inside the ring, Mike had an intuition that he would lose the match pathetically, because of the cut above his eye. It was an impulsive act that he didn’t put in much thought.

The fight is known as “The Bite Fight” to date. In a clinch, “Iron Mike” used all of his desperation and bit off a portion of Holyfield’s ear. Holyfield was shocked and complained to referee Mills Lane, who checked it and, to the amazement of the spectators, who were unaware of what had happened, decided to disqualify Mike Tyson.
The spectators didn’t really get the scenario until Tyson bit Holyfield was shown on the arena screen in slow motion.
Tyson was permanently disfigured, put on probation, and did not return to the ring until 1999. Holyfield lost a portion of his ear but kept his entire World Boxing Association title. The encounter became known as “The Bite Fight.”

Tyson was penalised $3 million, still the biggest financial penalty in boxing.
However, Tyson and Holyfield are now friends.
