Joshua raised many eyebrows when he announced Franklin as his next opponent. The 29-year-old is not a household name in the sport and his biggest fight was his last bout where he lost against Dillian Whyte. However, that fight turned out to be a very entertaining bout. So maybe we can expect more of the same this weekend at the O2 Arena.

If we compare their records, both fighters match up fairly evenly. Joshua has a 24-3 record while Franklin has a 21-1 professional record. However, the knockouts are where Joshua stands out from his opponent.

The former champion has 22 knockouts out of his 24 wins. The only two fighters who Joshua did not knockout were Andy Ruiz Jr. and Joseph Parker. Therefore, ‘AJ’ has an 81% knockout rate. Franklin, on the other hand, has just 14 knockouts from his 21 wins. This gives him a 63% knockout rate. Therefore, if we go solely by the stats, Joshua is a better knockout artist than Jermaine Franklin.

If we compare the nature of the knockouts, Joshua has had more vicious knockouts than Jermaine. Out of 14 knockouts for Franklin, ten have been TKOs. Joshua, on the other hand, has five knockouts and 17 TKOs. Therefore, even when we compare the nature of the knockout, Anthony Joshua is a better knockout artist than Jermaine Franklin.

So does this mean we can expect another Anthony Joshua knockout win on Saturday? Unfortunately, boxing doesn’t work like that. We have seen how Ruiz Jr. shocked the world. Moreover, we have also seen Jermaine Franklin go the distance with hard-hitting Dillian Whyte. So the American is not an easy nut to crack.
