Boxing 2022: Deontay Wilder KO against Robert Helenius – October 15

At the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on October 15th, Robert Helenius was quickly dispatched by Deontay Wilder, who used a vicious right hand to finish the Finnish boxer in the first round. While Helenius followed Wilder around the ring, Wilder took his time getting into the fight and moved around outside. However, stalking Wilder turned out to be a horrible decision.

As the round came to a close, Helenius maneuvered Wilder into a corner and attempted to capitalize, but Wilder fired a short right hand that caught Helenius clean and knocked him out cold. He remained unconscious for several minutes until he left the ring by himself. The victory increased Wilder’s professional record to 43-2-1 and was his first in nearly three years after “The Bronze Bomber” lost two fights to Tyson Fury in 2020 and 2021.

Caleb Plant vs Anthony Dirrell – October 15

At the Barclays Center in New York City on October 15, Caleb Plant knocked Anthony Dirrell out in the ninth round of their super middleweight title eliminator match with one of the best performances of his whole career.

When it came time to fight, a lot of the passionate trash-talking that had been going on between Plant and Dirrell before their battle spilled over into the ring, the referee had to step in on many occasions over the first eight rounds as roughhousing grew commonplace.

Plant largely dominated the action in a lackluster battle, with the audience booing vociferously halfway through it when the two weren’t engaging in physical contact inside. All of that ended when Plant delivered an uppercut followed by a vicious left hand that caught Dirrell trying to counter and instantly knocked him to the ground. The fight was immediately called off.

Boxing 2022: Gervonta Davis KO Against Rolando Romero – May 28th

On May 28, Gervonta Davis knocked out Rolando Romero during their bout for the WBA World Lightweight Title in the sixth round. At the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, “Tank” challenged the loud-mouthed, brash “Rolly” to about where he sought to retain his world championship. Romero’s rhetoric turned out to be hollow when David, fighting from the southpaw posture, delivered a beautiful straight left-hand count punch as Romero approached, knocking him to the ground and leaving him hanging on the ropes.

Romero made every effort to stand up after the hard knockdown, but there was no way he could go on as “Tank” celebrated his 25th career knockout in just 27 fights.

Leigh Wood KO Against Michael Conlan – March 12th

In the 12th and final round, Leigh Wood defeated Michael Conlan by an astonishing last-second KO. The battle took place in Wood’s hometown of Nottingham, and a sold-out venue witnessed their hero defend the WBA World Featherweight Title for the first time against the Irish fighter.

Conlan was exhausted and was hoping to make it through the final three minutes of the 12th round when Wood launched an all-out attack on him. He was forcefully knocked out by Wood with only 1.44 seconds remaining, throwing the Irishman to the floor at ringside and through the ropes. The Belfast guy was out on his feet because he tumbled back through the ropes after being struck by a spectacular right hand from Nottingham that landed on Conlan’s temple.

Boxing 2022: Terence Crawford KO David Avanesyan – December 11th

Terence Crawford remains faultless. On December 9 at the Chi Health Center in Omaha, Nebraska, Crawford (39-0, 30 KO) defeated David Avanesyan (29-4-1, 17 KO) in a highlight-reel sixth-round knockout to defend his perfect record and keep his WBO welterweight title.

With 49 seconds remaining in the round, Crawford delivered a quick right hook to the challenger, ending the close fight between the two boxers. Crawford successfully defends his WBO welterweight championship, which he has held since stopping Jeff Horn in the ninth round by technical knockout in 2018.
